Presentation of Andreas Ripp, MunEDA Vice President Sales & Marketing: Robustness & Reliability - Facing new Quality Levels for Automotive ICs with Design for Yield DFY
The presentation of Andreas Ripp, Vice President Sales & Marketing MunEDA, concentrated on the extremely high requirements in the field of Automotive IC Design. On the one hand it is the ongoing integration of semiconductor-systems and on the other hand the challenge of increasing manufacturing process complexity, that result in enormous efforts in IC design. Based on industrial design examples effects and consequences of design faults and resulting quality defects will be presented. Following will be shown how important quality factors like yield, robustness and reliability of manufactured automotive chips can be improved fundamentally. Herewith especially the process variations of modern chip technologies and their effects on design and manufacturing process are in the foreground. The application of innovative Design for Yield DFY methologies results both in increasing design efficiency as well as in a reduced development and manufacturing effort. Low failure rates and high yield in production and operation of automotive ICs reduce time-to-market and lead to considerable competitive advantages.
