German Technology Ministry (BMBF) awards MunEDA with large research project contract for Analog Circuit Verification

Munich, Germany - Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Partnering with Atmel, Bosch, Cadence and Infineon

MunEDA GmbH announced that it has been selected by the German Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) as partner in the research project VeronA together with Bosch, Infineon, Atmel and Cadence®. Furthermore, research institutes Fraunhofer ITWM, Technische Universität München and Universität Frankfurt/Main will participate on a subcontractor basis. The project started in 2006 and will last three years until 2009.

Goal of VeronA is the development of a seamless automatic verification methodology for integrated analog circuits and systems. The results of this research project will leverage the verification of analog parts of a mixed-signal chip to the level of their digital counterparts.

Dr. Frank Schenkel, MunEDA´s Vice President Research & Develoment. stated: "In VeronA, MunEDA will concentrate its activities on formal methodologies for performance and tolerance verification. We see a big potential and demand from the industry specifically in the field of verification of analog circuits and systems. Our activities will be driven by a close cooperation with our industrial partners Atmel, Bosch and Infineon. On the research side, MunEDA, a leader in design for yield and design for manufacturability solutions, combines its vast experience with the outstanding expertise in computer aided design of analog circuits of the Institute for Electronic Design Automation of Technische Universität München."

The goals of the research project include:
  • Methodologies and rules for the generation of fast-simulating models. These models shall describe a sufficient number of physical effects (e.g. mixed-discipline, temperature) accurately enough for the verification at different abstraction levels
  • Formal verification methods for analog integrated circuits, namely model-checking and equivalence-checking
  • Assertion-based verification and formal methods for performance and tolerance verification
  • Implementation of a global approach for multi-level verification of analog systems under consideration of mixed-signal/mixed-domain aspects
